Kings Hill Bounce Back with 3–1 Win at Canterbury City

Our men’s 1st team bounced back from the previous week’s disappointment to pick up 3 points away from home at former SCEFL team Canterbury City. Despite a depleted squad, it was Kings Hill who started on the front foot and they went in front early with Macca nodding home a Morgan Williamson corner. It was nearly 2-0 when a George Ellis cross was tucked away by Charlie Hatton only to be flagged offside. However, the Spitfires didn’t have to wait long to extend their lead as Macca picked up a through ball to slot home. Kings Hill were dominant at this stage with further opportunities falling to Kieron Kennerley, who hit the woodwork, Hatton and Ollie Aston. However, Canterbury gradually improved and were looking threatening before half time without being able to narrow Kings Hill’s lead.
Canterbury started the 2nd half on the offensive but Kings Hill soon extended their lead as Hatton intercepted a back pass and fired home to make it 3-0. The home side quickly pulled a goal back as they beat the offside trap to slot home despite best efforts from Kings Hill Goalkeeper, Harvey Mills. The game became somewhat scrappy thereafter in the windy conditions with both teams having scoring opportunities without being able to take them. Kings Hill ran out deserved 3-1 winners for a valuable 3 points and push them into 4th position in the table.
Reflecting on the performance, Patrick Lee said:
“Another brilliant response from the boys following a defeat last week.
We started the game so brightly and were disappointed not to have taken a couple more chances we had within the first 15 minutes, we did have a goal disallowed which I’m not sure anyone knew what for! I think that took the wind out of our sail a little bit, as it felt like our momentum had stopped really.
Canterbury did test us a few times and were brilliant with the ball going forwards, credit to them, they caused us issues at times but we addressed that at half time, and the boys went out and delivered what I thought was a very professional performance in the 2nd half.
Was great to see Charlie Hatton get on the scoresheet as his workrate deserved so, I know how disappointed he was last week for not scoring some of his chances, he was Man of the Match for me on the day, superb effort from start to finish.
We’re looking forward to taking a bit of a break from the league and to focus on another mentality of winning in the cup, we’d love to have a good cup run and get a home record going again, so we’re all excited for this weekend.”
