Kings Hill Fall to Metrogas as Unbeaten Home Run Ends

A disappointing afternoon for our men’s 1st team who let a half time lead slip for Metrogas to take all 3 points, ending Kings Hill’s long unbeaten home record. With players missing through injury, illness and suspension, Kings Hill were solid in the 1st half, taking the lead through Ollie Aston and, after being pegged back, getting in front again courtesy of an own goal from the visitors.
The second half was a scrappy affair with Kings Hill missing some great chances to extend their lead and, most likely, put the game beyond the visitor’s reach. They would rue these misses when during a 15 minute second half spell defensive lapses contributed to two Metrogas goals leaving the Spitfires with an uphill battle. Again chances were missed and, despite several substitutions, Kings Hill couldn’t find the opening to at least get a share of the spoils.
Disappointing 3 points dropped and now time for the squad to regroup and then go on another good run.
Reflecting on the performance, Patrick Lee said:
“A disappointing day on a couple of fronts really. Thats not a game which we should of lost and thats the hardest thing to accept I think.
We started superbly and got our noses in front, the game levelled out a little bit after that, but going into the break we were more than comfortable at half time with discussions around how we were going to create chances and to prevent them getting chances as well.
Thats exactly what we did in the second half and we have nothing to show for it unfortunately, numerous 1 on 1s, crosses into the box, second phase opportunities and the clinicalness which we needed to show to maintain our lead we lost in both boxes, which is so key and the finer details which the boys know so well, we weren’t good enough at.
Credit where it is due is they had 3 chances and took them, something to learn for us, as its something we’ve been discussing recently regarding chances and how close we’ve left games but managed to come away unscathed.
We have to dust ourselves off and get ready as we know the importance of each and every game.“
