Kings Hill FC Hosts Biggest-Ever Tournament at Sports Park

Over 270 teams. Two sun-soaked days. One unforgettable weekend of grassroots football.
Kings Hill FC’s flagship tournament returned with a bang over the weekend of 24–25 May 2025, and it was the largest and most inclusive edition to date. Held at the club’s home, Kings Hill Sports Park, the event brought together 277 teams from across the region for two action-packed days of competition, camaraderie, and community spirit.

From the moment the first whistle blew on Saturday morning, the pitches were alive with energy and excitement and they didn’t stop buzzing until the final trophies were handed out on Sunday evening.

This year’s tournament celebrated the full spectrum of grassroots football. Boys and mixed teams competed from Under-7s up to Under-15s, while girls’ teams were represented across the Under-8 to Under-15 age groups. The weekend also featured a lively and competitive women’s tournament, which grows in profile yearly. A particular highlight was the newly added disability football section, which welcomed four junior groups and one adult group, reinforcing the club’s commitment to inclusive and accessible sport for all.

“The turnout and atmosphere were incredible,” said Andrew Boxer, Chairman of Kings Hill FC. “This tournament reflects everything we believe in as a club, creating opportunities for players of all ages and abilities, bringing the community together, and celebrating the power of football.”

Organising a tournament of this size is no easy feat. Months of preparation went into ensuring the weekend ran smoothly, and for that, the club is deeply grateful to the Kings Hill FC Tournament Committee. Behind the scenes, they managed everything from pitch scheduling and equipment logistics to car parking, signage, and safety protocols. Their tireless work meant players, coaches, and parents could focus on enjoying the event.

A huge thank you also goes to Lee Reilly, who coordinated over 100 volunteers across the weekend. From setting up gazebos to litter picking, from manning the information points to managing car parking, their efforts were vital and noticed by everyone.

Similarly, Sam Marsh took on the considerable task of organising and allocating referees across every age group, ensuring each match was officiated fairly and professionally. This was a significant achievement, with hundreds of games played across the weekend.

But the event wasn’t just about the football. Families enjoyed a brilliant festival atmosphere, with food trucks, refreshments, merchandise, and stalls all contributing to a lively, welcoming environment. Children not playing were kicking balls around with friends, parents caught up in the sunshine, and the Kings Hill community came together in full force. The feedback from visiting teams has already been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the facilities, the organisation, and the hospitality of the host club.

As the final whistle blew on Sunday evening and the last cones were packed away, the Kings Hill FC family’s sense of pride was palpable.

“This tournament showcases what makes our club so special,” added Helen Marsh, Club Secretary. “It’s not just the number of teams or the quality of football, it’s the volunteers who give up their weekend, the parents who help marshal parking, the young referees who gain experience and confidence, and the players who leave with memories that will last a lifetime.”
