Our men’s 1st team got back to winning ways at home and progressed in the cup with a narrow victory over previously unbeaten, Division 1 side South East Athletic. Kings Hill gave a debut to new signing Nathniel Waul and starts to club youngsters Will Seage and Indy Robinson but it was the visitors who came out of the blocks sharpest, testing the home back line from the off. Kings Hill struggled to retain possession or to find their normal tempo in the opening exchanges and, but for solid defending, could easily have found themselves behind. As the half wore on Kings Hill improved with Charlie Hatton’s tireless work rate and running in behind starting to cause the South East defence problems. Neither team could find a breakthrough before half time though and the teams went in level at 0-0.
Kings Hill continued to grow after the break and were starting to look more likely. However, they would have fallen behind but for excellent last man defending from veteran George Hawkins and a fine one on one save from Harvey Mills, both versus South East’s pacy centre forward. Kings Hill used their strong bench wisely and soon after bringing on Morgan Williamson, George Sibley and Rich Davies they got their noses in front. After some neat play in the midfield Williamson played a lovely pass inside the full back for Sibley to run onto and whip in a great cross, which Rylan Casey swept home with a first time finish.
Kings Hill could have added to the lead soon afterwards when a Casey snapshot from inside the box was well saved by the away goalkeeper. After that, Kings Hill managed the game well without really looking threatened and were able to give welcome returns from injury to Joe Lawrence and Ryan Young. The game finished with a 1-0 victory and matchday sponsors, Pro Intense Football Academy, selected Indy Robinson as man of the match due to his mature midfield display.

Speaking after the game, Patrick Lee said:
“As always nice to get a cup run going. It was a good opportunity for a lot of our boys to get out and play, get some minutes in for those who have come back from injury also, plenty of positions to take from the game as well as progression to next round.
There were a tough opposition and massive respects to South East as they were hard to break down and made it difficult for us! There were times I thought we could have been more aggressive, but with some players coming back in, they were still finding their feet.
We move onto Wednesdays derby at Snodland, which we know is going to be a tough game, but we want to finish the month strong to build into a tough October schedule.”
