Kings Hill earn draw vs Minster in KCL Premier clash

A fantastic advert for Kent County League football at the Sports Park on Saturday as our men’s 1st team went toe to toe with last season’s Premier Division runners up, Minster, and came away with a well deserved point. The first half of the match was very even with both teams having good spells of possession and dominance. Minster probably had the best chances, putting over from close range and then forcing a brilliant point blank save from Kings Hill goalkeeper Harvey Mills.
The main action in the match came in the second half, which was lit up with a stunning opener from Macca to put Kings Hill 1-0 up. Minster had just forced another outstanding save from Mills, and then from his clearance, Macca picked the ball up just inside the Minster half, spotted the keeper off of his line and drilled an effort from inside the centre circle over the retreating keeper’s head and into the back of the Minster net.
Minster pushed for an equaliser and finally broke through as the ball fell nicely in the box for them to bring scores level. Soon afterwards Minster took the lead, Joe Lawrence was sent off for a second yellow following a foul on the edge of the Kings Hill box. From the resultant free kick, Minster curled a left foot strike over the wall and into the top corner. Things were looking challenging at this stage for the Spits but the boys showed great resolve to gradually regain a foothold in the match and with a few substitutions and positional changes started pushing for an equaliser. Will Seage narrowly fired over after a Macca knock down and Morgan Williamson saw an effort fly just wide. Then with only a few minutes left, the ball fell to midfielder Keiron Kennerley just inside the right side of the box and he fired a stunning left foot half volley into the roof of the net giving the Minster goalkeeper no chance, sparking raucous celebrations amongst the Kings Hill players, staff and supporters.
The final whistle blew soon afterwards with a point for both sides reflecting a fair result and a very entertaining afternoon’s football.
On the team’s performance, Patrick Lee noted:
“Overall, I think its a fair result for both teams to come away with a draw, i think we both had chances to win and take the lead in the game, and we had to deal with large amounts of pressure during the time we were down to 10 and they had some chances to win it during that time also, but we managed to come out fighting and get ourselves a draw, with the chances we had and missed at 11v11, I feel like we deserved that outcome.
They are a top side Minster, they showed why they have finished so high in the table for numerous years now and its always been an enjoyable game against them and yesterday was exactly the same.
Its going to be important for the boys to recover properly for Monday and its straight to preparations for the next game. I’m so proud of their performance yesterday and the togetherness they showed as a group to get a result yesterday and keep the unbeaten run at home going.
