Kings Hill secured a hard-earned and well-deserved three points on the road with a 1–0 win over Long Lane at Kidbrooke Playing Fields. Both teams entered the game looking to bounce back from recent defeats, and the first half reflected that a tense and cautious opening with limited chances. Both sides struggled to break the other down, but it remained goalless at the interval.
Kings Hill, however, came out after the break with renewed energy and intent. A hardworking midfield four began to take control, dictating play and pushing the home side back. The tempo lifted noticeably, and forwards Megan Kemp and Rachael McCarthy were soon finding space in behind as chances began to come.The pressure eventually told. After a spell of sustained attacking play and a string of corners, Kirsty Goodall delivered a pinpoint ball into the box, which Heather Dixey met brilliantly, rising highest to head home and give Kings Hill a deserved lead.
With the breakthrough secured, Kings Hill kept their foot on the gas. Kirsty went close again, this time rattling the woodwork, and further chances followed as the away side looked to kill the game off. At the other end, Long Lane were limited to half-chances, their growing frustration resulting in a yellow card and a sin-bin late on, as Kings Hill remained disciplined and composed throughout.
A deflected effort late in the game was the closest Long Lane came to equalising, but Kings Hill managed the final minutes confidently to claim all three points.
A strong second-half showing, excellent work rate across the pitch, and a deserved clean sheet, a solid performance and an important win on the road.
