Four-goal Kings Hill display sends Women’s 1st Team into Plate quarter-finals

Kings Hill 4 v 0 Herne Bay

A strong performance sees our Women’s 1st Team through to the quarter-final of the Kent FA Women’s Plate.
From the off Kings Hill looked dangerous, utilising the flanks brilliantly, with debutant Lola causing havoc for the Herne Bay U18s defence and creating some early chances. The opening 15 minutes saw chances for both teams, before Jess Nunn pulled off a strong double save to keep the tie goalless. Then came good work from Sadie and Lola to set up Marta who had her effort tipped onto the bar before Herne Bay went long and hit the bar from distance just 20 seconds later.

Kings Hill dominated the ball and some good saves from the Herne Bay keeper kept it level until Kirsty played a lovely floated through ball to Marta who calmly rounded the keeper to score her first goal in women’s football. Not long later some strong play from Ziggy saw Kings Hill in Herne Bay’s box where Charlotte Martin blocked a clearance that fell back to Ziggy who slotted the ball into the corner to make it 2-0.

The pressure from Kings Hill continued and saw an interception from Aimee find its way to Ziggy who played it through to Charlotte W for her to finish 1 on 1 with the keeper making it 3-0 shortly before half time.

The second half started very much similar to how the first half ended, with some good work down the right flank leading to a left footed effort from Megan striking the post 6 minutes into the half. Herne Bay managed to grab a foothold in the game before Elle picked the ball up at the back, playing Lola through on the left hand side who forced a strong save from the keeper, before falling to Ziggy to set up Charlotte M for Kings Hill’s 4th just past the hour mark.

The rest of the half saw more chances for Kings Hill but nothing to truly test the Herne Bay keeper. With the final whistle blowing, a strong performance with a clean sheet saw Kings Hill comfortably into the next round.

POTM – Kirsty Goodall

On the team’s performance, Tom Slade noted:

“The ladies did a fantastic job today, creating countless chances, whilst not allowing the Herne Bay to have many at all. What was more impressive than the amount of chances we created was seeing that they were being created in a multitude of ways, which shows us as a management team that they are developing not only as individuals but as a team as well. It was also great to see 4 U18s in the squad as well, all playing very well and showing the pathway to the 1st Team is strong. All in all a great performance, but still with room for improvement.”
