Kings Hill Battle to 1-1 Draw at High-Flying Kent United

Our men’s first team put in a disciplined performance to earn a deserved point at high flying Kent United. On a cold afternoon on the 4G pitch at Glebe FC, the host’s young side settled well and played some neat attractive football. Despite several absentees, Kings Hill were once again well organised and hard working with the back four of George Sibley, George Hawkins, Eroms Amros and Cam Croucher protecting goalkeeper, Harvey Mills, extremely well. With honours looking like being even going into the break, the young referee almost handed a lead to the hosts, awarding a penalty against what was a clearly fair tackle to break up an attack by Sibley. Kings Hill were frustrated by the decision and, to the officials credit, the referee consulted his assistant and correctly reversed the decision.
Kings Hill provided more attacking threat from the start of the second half and just before the hour mark, a long throw from the impressive Charley Epps caused chaos in the Kent United box with the ball falling to Amros who prodded home. Kings Hill’s attack of Mackenzie Gardiner, Tom Ansell, Jason Mola and Joel Adedapo were now causing the hosts defence problems as the game opened up. United eventually started controlling more possession and pressed for an equaliser but Kings Hill were coping well with the balls into the box and limiting the hosts to very few clear cut chances. However with around fifteen minutes to play, United forced an equaliser when a corner was not fully cleared and was bundled over the line. As the hosts pushed for a winner, Kings Hill were able to break quickly on several occasions and came close to grabbing a winner, creating two or three clear cut chances, the best of which resulted in Gardiner seeing his effort well saved by the home goalkeeper. However, neither side could find a winner and Kings Hill, bolstered by the introduction from the bench of Luke McHugh, who was returning from a long term injury, and James Cheeseman saw the match out for a hard earned point.
