Kings Hill Finish 2025 with Deserved 2-1 Victory Over Guru Nanak

A hard working performance gained Kings Hill a well deserved first league victory since early November as they defeated Guru Nanak 2-1. On a chilly afternoon by the Thames, Kings Hill built on the previous week’s much improved performance and started well, pressing energetically and playing with high intensity. With Charley Epps marshalling the midfield and the front three of George Sibley, Mackenzie Gardiner and Joel Adedapo all looking lively, Kings Hill were soon causing the hosts defence problems. Sibley almost put the visitors in front in the opening minutes when he latched onto a through ball only to see his effort well saved by the home goalkeeper. However the sustained pressure was soon to tell when, after a series of corners, Keiron Kennerley gathered the ball on Kings Hill’s left, before cutting inside to whip a cross in, which centre back Keaton Courtman headed powerfully into the back of the net giving the Guru keeper no chance. Kings Hill were well on top at this stage but, credit to the home team who, prompted by their influential skipper in central midfield, gradually gained a foothold in the match. This improvement saw the hosts draw level when a free kick from 25 yards was drilled home with an unstoppable strike from their captain. Guru had the initiative at this stage and it took a couple of good saves from the returning Harvey Mills to keep the scores level. Just before the break, Kings Hill regained the lead when Nathaniel Waul won possession in midfield and played a ball to Sibley who clipped a ball over the top to put Gardiner through on goal. Macca made no mistake with his finish, placing it into the bottom corner to leave Kings Hill ahead at the break.
The second half was an even affair with the industrious Matt Morse coming on to ensure that the home defence could never settle and youngster Indy Robinson entering the fray to impress in helping keep control of Guru’s talented midfield. Kings Hill created some good opportunities but were unable to gain the comfort of extending their lead. However the back four of Joe Lawrence, Keaton Courtman, Max Sutton and Cam Croucher, bolstered by George Hawkins in the closing stages, looked extremely solid and were limiting clear cut opportunities for the hosts. They were able to break through once as the home centre forward broke Kings Hill’s offside trap for a one on one with Mills, which was placed just wide of the goal. Kings Hill were able to see out the remainder of the game without incident and to pick up the three points. A very welcome reward for the management team and players for their hard work to get back to winning ways and a great way to finish an extremely impressive year for the group with a platform to look forward from into 2026.
