Kings Hill 2 v 5 Falconwood
A disappointing afternoon for our men’s first team who were well beaten at home by runaway league leaders Falconwood. Kings Hill were bright in the opening 10 minutes and could have taken an early lead when Keiron Kennerley fired wide from the edge of the box. However the impressive visitors soon found their stride and went in front when Kings Hill’s defence failed to deal with a through ball which Falconwood slotted home to take the lead. They soon doubled their advantage when a punch from Goalkeeper Harvey Mills following a corner fell to a Falconwood player to volley into the net. At this stage Falconwood’s slick passing and movement was causing Kings Hill no end of problems and it wasn’t long before they went further in front. Kings Hill lost the ball just outside their own box and in an attempt to recover George Hawkins fouled a Falconwood attacker, conceding a penalty which the visitors converted. Kings Hill could have narrowed the deficit just before half time when Mackenzie Gardiner shot wide after good pressure from George Sibley forced an error from the Falconwood defence. However, the home side went into the break 3-0 down and with a mountain to climb.
Kings Hill started the second half with improved energy and tried to take the game to the visitors but, despite this, it was Falconwood who went further in front after a quick break led to a chance which was rifled into the roof of the home net. To their credit Kings Hill gave themselves a glimmer of hope late on with a penalty from Ollie Aston and a headed goal from Matt Morse.
But this hope evaporated as the match became feisty and Kings Hill were reduced to 9 men following substitutes Morse and Charlie Hatton both getting sent off. Falconwood took advantage of the uneven numbers to score a late fifth topping off a poor day for the hosts.
“A very disappointing day and overall, not what I was expecting really. All the boys seemed up for the game, the warm up was superb and a really good tempo, we just then never seemed to get going after the first whistle, annoyingly we could of found ourselves 1-0 up as well! But to conceded 3 goals in the fashion we did was no where near our standards and principles in how we have been not even just this season, but the last 18 months really.
Our second half started a bit better, but individual errors continued which led to them having chances, that we have to eradicate and learn from this, we deserved to get ourselves back in a position and with amount of time left, I genuinely believed we could het back in the game and get a result maybe, but then 2 unnecessary red cards and we’re backs against the wall again, its learning curves with a very harsh lesson unfortunately, no time to rest as we have to dust ourselves off and prepare for a tough away game at New Romney next week.”Patrick Lee
