Our men’s first team made a disappointing exit from the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield, losing on penalties in South East London. With AMG Ballerz unbeaten at the top of Division 1 and having already defeated Premier Division opposition in cups this season, this was always a tough away draw. The quality of football on show was not assisted by blustery conditions and a niggly encounter, which proved challenging for the match official to keep under control. The first half was fairly even with both teams having chances through goalmouth scrambles but defences were on top. AMG started the second half stronger and pinned Kings Hill back for a period, having a couple of gilt edged chances from close range that were spurned.
The introduction of George Sibley and Ollie Aston added some attacking impetus and Kings Hill took back a foothold in the game, creating opportunities when they were able to develop passing movements. Keaton Courtman and Max Sutton both went close for the visitors but eventually the game fizzled out to a goalless draw and penalties.
The home side scored all 5 of their spot kicks but unfortunately Courtman saw his penalty well saved by the home goalkeeper leaving Kings Hill to exit the competition that they won in 2022.
“On reflection we are disappointed with being knocked out on pens, its never a nice way to lose as you don’t feel like you have done a lot wrong during the game!
I think we needed to be more clinical with the chances which we had in the first half mainly, we didn’t create enough in second half, it was a bit nothing from both teams really.
You can see why they’re doing well in their league, their effective without the ball and are aggressive in their press, which I don’t think we exploited enough either.
But time to brush it to the side and focus on a massive game in the league next week at home to Falconwood.”Patrick Lee
